NIGERIA SHALL GET BETTER AGAIN  New Cities in Nigeria

By Sunday Jolayemi (2004)

(A campaign for unity and love for Nigerian masses)

Dear friend,

This is a message of hope that Nigeria, despite the present unfortunate economic situation, shall get better again only if we can unite to fight poverty and not the government and raise the level of social service which Nigerians never enjoyed for years. We also need to fear God and 'Kill selfishness'.

We have all failed as government and people. We need to start afresh. If we don’t agree with this fact Nigeria might end in an indefinite economic crisis.

How can we start all over again? This is as simple as A.B, C if you believe it. It might take us years but we shall get there someday if we start now. We have never started a journey to a promised land we can all call our country home. This is a frank truth. A thousand mile journey never start by a mile but a step. No magic wand can turn Nigeria as a whole within 10 years or 50 years.

So what should we do?

Simple. We need to go back to our local government areas. A new Nigeria can only evolve from new cities in the local area. Nigerians, especially the rich should form various independent social service organisations and selflessly plan to create new cities in one local government area of each state of the federation with the aim of raising the level of social service. A new way of life should be created in new areas and this shall expand to many other areas with time.

The present day Nigerian cities do not provide the basic standard of living anymore and there is no point destroying them though. If it is possible for Nigerians to migrate abroad for greener pastures, it is possible for them to migrate to new improved cities in Nigeria. If it was possible for a Nigerian to develop for himself an Island outside Nigeria where he can enjoy the fullness of life, in unity we can create new cities for the masses to enjoy at least the basic standard of living. The masses are suffering and the future seems unclear to many. Many great talents have flown out of the country for greener pasture. But why? Nigeria doesn’t deserve this.

If the whole world can see our move to create new cities where for instance, electricity is readily available for living and doing businesses (e.g. use of solar energy etc), portable water, good road network, simple but good housing units, cheap and easily affordable food produced by mechanized farming, simple but equipped medical centers, good communication network and other basic amenities for the masses we would not need to woo any investor before coming to the cities to invest. Nigeria is rich, some Nigerians are very rich but Nigerian masses are very poor.

How much doest it cost to turn Nigeria around by starting from the local areas? If you think we should look for at least 400 trillion pounds we would end up doing nothing to help Nigeria out. A penny can go a long way. A drop of water makes a mighty ocean. Your selfless service to the nation and the humanity is important. You do not need to be in government before you can provide a social service. Everybody needs to work at it. Different social service organizations can evolve from corporate bodies, rich individuals home and abroad, student bodies, religious organizations etc.

Let us unite to fight selfishness and make the love for humanity the first priority. Let the rich help the masses. The Nigerian government can get better. Nigerians can be good citizens again.

Let us all now dream of great cities in Nigeria where a new and better life shall begin. Let us all work towards the dream and make it a reality. It is real: Nigeria shall get better again
